Welcome to Helvetica!

11 Oct

The slogan of the 2011 Edition of the Cristal Festival plays on words, mixing the name of the Helvetica typefont, and the country where the Cristal Festival takes place place since 2009.

In order to begin the introduction of this year’s summit for media and creativity, let’s explore what is hidden behind the famous font…

A short history of Helvetica :

The Helvetica typeface was developed in 1957 by Swiss designer Max Miedunge, and helped by Eduard Hoffmann, head of the Haas typefoundry he was working for. The typeface quickly won over the esteem of both advertisers and agencies worldwide, considered as the incarnation of modernity, and at the same time it was very neutral which allowed all the freedom needed for creatives to conceive their ideas.

Helvetica also represents a membership to the “efficiency” club. It is said that “You’re only really creative if you can be creative with Helvetica”, that is to say if you can distinguish yourself from the others with one of the most used fonts ever, furthermore with its simple and clear design. Choosing Helvetica for copywriting or advertising  is making the choice of excellence in creativity.

Over its neutrality, Helvetica is known to be one of the easiest fonts to read.

Helvetica dominated the Typography world since its creation, it was logical to use it as a representation of the Cristal Festival: the top of creativity at the top of the mountain!!!

With only 2 months to go here is a sneak preview of what’s in store for the 11th edition of the Cristal Festival!

This year the Cristal Festival emphasises its position as a supporter of young talent by launching new contests for young talent.
